Digital Modules: To digitize the curriculum with a focus on improving learning effectiveness & outcomes.

Context
The Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) ran a successful Adolescent Empowerment program in Bihar & Chhattisgarh, called Sakshama. It consisted of 16 offline sessions on various topics around growing up and life skills that were conducted offline by facilitators and attended by adolescent girls. These facilitators consisted of Teachers and Community Facilitators.
Challenge
We realized that while the program content was very powerful, the biggest gap lay in the wide disparity in capabilities of the individual facilitators to conduct the training sessions.
However despite this drawback, the facilitators had a powerful connection and rapport with the participants. Thus they MUST be part of the solution!
Results
The Module Digitization was successfully rolled out across both states of Bihar & Chattisgarh
Exercises and group discussions resulted in keeping the interest intact of adolescent girls
Modules improved standardization, improving learner engagement and learning outcomes
Solution
The solution lay in finding the best combination of digital & physical to optimize both the Learner & Teacher journey. Fundamentally, we needed to ensure that we make the most of the teachers personal community/rapport and nothing is lost to the unpredictable capability of individual field teachers. Practically, we needed to deep-dive into the delivery of each session to identify and iron out every niggles/cracks thus resulting in a seamless flow at scale.
At the end of this exploratory exercise with the program team, we created 16 comprehensive Phy-gital modules on a spectrum of topics like ‘Growing up’, ‘Emotional well-being’, ‘Gender Equality' & so on.
-
Digital modules ensured that no piece of key information was lost in translation or transmission immaterial of who was conducting the training.
-
At the same time, each module had carefully placed ‘Engagement Pauses’. Each pause allowed Facilitators to engage with the participants, guide them through reflective exercises and take them deeper into the topic
Each digital module was also field-tested. Any ‘glitches’ were iterated and corrected upon to ensure that the flow of engagement was BANG-ON for both the participant and the facilitator.
