Context

Larsen and Toubro Public Charitable Trust (LTPCT)’s programs focus on critical issues such as water management, healthcare, skill development and education. Operational across Gujarat and Maharashtra, LTPCT’s programs, implemented by several NGO partners, have reached over 1.2 million people.

Challenge

The incredible work done by LTPCT's implementing partners faced a critical hurdle: effectively communicating impact and securing lasting support. They often face difficulty in building strong first impressions and struggle to showcase their impact through communication tools such photography and report-writing.

Results

Over the course of two months & five locations (Mumbai and Vikhramgad (in Maharashtra), Subir and Vansda, Kharel (in Gujarat)—the one-day workshop reached 112 participants, which included various representatives of LTPCT’s implementing partners.

After the workshop, over 76% participants expressed confidence in using storytelling frameworks, with plans to create beneficiary-centric narratives.

Confidence in using smartphones for photography rose significantly, with 65.7% of participants feeling highly capable post-training.

Participants left with a stronger appreciation of how qualitative elements can enhance communication and advocacy.

Solution

A one-day physical workshop was proposed, with the idea of teaching technical skills of documentation, story-telling and photography, alongside practical application of  the learning. The learning goals for the participants were defined based on the challenge, which included:

  • Crafting compelling narratives: Participants will gain the ability to capture the essence of their work through captivating stories of change in their areas of work

  • Capturing impactful visuals: Participants will learn the basic techniques of photography that can help them capture impactful photos through their smartphones.

  • Enhancing documentation: Participants will be able to create compelling, qualitative reports that showcase progress, impact, and the human stories behind the data.

The agenda of the workshop consisted of group activities along with theory sessions, giving participants the opportunity to practically apply technical skills, and also get feedback from the experts then and there.

To capture the impact of the workshop, a pre and post test was conducted. This was primarily done to map the learning journey of the participants and the effectiveness of the workshop.

Beyond the physical workshop, a virtual refresher training was also organized which served as a space to revise the concepts learnt during physical workshops and solve any remaining doubts and queries.
