OUR FOUNDING STORY:
WHY VIVA EXISTS
It started with a feeling that something was missing.
We had spent years in marketing and media, building campaigns that could make people stop, feel, and act for some of the country's biggest brands. The work was fast and exhilarating, but a question kept surfacing beneath it: what if this craft, this ability to move people, could be pointed at something that truly mattered?
That question pulled us into the social impact sector. And there we saw it plainly. All around us were organisations doing vital work on the causes that shape lives, water, sanitation, health, agriculture, livelihoods, yet the craft that made brands impossible to ignore was almost entirely missing from the work of changing lives. Powerful causes were struggling to be heard, to be funded, to be acted on.
The louder the cause deserved to be, the quieter it often was.
That gap became an idea, and in 2014 the idea became VIVA: strategic communication, and the deep understanding of audiences behind it, brought to the organisations driving social change.
The more closely we worked, in boardrooms and out in the field, the more one question came to define us: who is a cause really for, what do those people need, and what is holding them back? Answering it well is an act of strategy in itself, and it sharpened everything about how we work.
A decade on, VIVA is a strategic communication partner to the social impact sector, with programs and the communities they serve at the heart of everything we make. Because we still believe what we believed at the start: every cause deserves a voice, and building that voice is a craft worth mastering.
